Paving The Future Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Virginia Asphalt Association
One application allows consideration for every scholarship offered. An individual may receive only one scholarship per year.
Overview
The Paving the Future Scholarship is presented as the Richard J. Schreck Legacy Scholarship, honoring Richard J. Schreck, VAA’s retired Executive Vice President who served for 36 years. Richard played a key role in creating the scholarship program, and these awards continue in his name to support education beyond high school for those connected to the asphalt industry.
Purpose and Administration
This scholarship helps dependents, spouses, and employees of VAA member companies pursue post-secondary education, with a particular emphasis on studies related to asphalt, construction, or infrastructure. The program is administered by the NAPA Research and Education Foundation (NAPAREF), a 501(c)(3) organization.
Who May Apply
Eligible applicants include dependents, spouses, or employees of VAA member companies. Both incoming first-year students at post-secondary institutions (including trade schools, colleges, and universities) and students already enrolled in post-high school programs are invited to apply.
2025 Awards
With the support of generous donors, VAA awarded a total of $70,000 in Paving the Future Scholarships for 2025. Fourteen recipients were selected, and each will receive a $5,000 check in June.

Applications for the 2026 Paving the Future Scholarship must be submitted by May 1, 2026. Send the completed application and all required documentation via email to rjsscholarship@vaasphalt.com or mail them to the address listed on the application.
