AAU Karate Scholarships

Introduction
The AAU Karate Scholarship program was unveiled to members at the 2004 AAU Karate National Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Over the past ten (10) years, the program has provided support to many deserving athletes.
Purpose and Name
The AAU Karate Michael Eggleston Sr. Memorial Scholarship honors Michael (Mike) Eggleston Sr., a dedicated member of the AAU Karate community. Sensei Eggleston — who served as an athlete, coach, official, and volunteer — exemplified the AAU Karate spirit. He passed away unexpectedly in May 2021, and his legacy continues within the program.
Eligibility
- Awards are presented annually to one young man and one young woman.
- Applicants must have participated in AAU Karate for at least one (1) year.
- Applications will only be accepted through the official AAU Karate submission process; no other application formats will be considered.
- Eligible applicants must either: (a) plan to attend an accredited undergraduate college or university for the academic year beginning in the Fall, or (b) be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university.
Application and Required Form
- The scholarship application form must be completed by the applicant and a parent or guardian.
- Applications may be submitted to AAU Karate on behalf of qualified applicants.
Award Details
Two (2) scholarships of $2,500.00 each (one male, one female) will be awarded annually as the AAU Karate Michael Eggleston Sr. Memorial Scholarships.
Presentation Requirement
Recipients must be present at the AAU Karate National Championships to receive the scholarship.
Deadline
All application materials must be received by Friday, May 15, 2026.
