Southeast Member Chapter Gene Suave Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST)
Purpose
The Southeast Chapter awards financial assistance to a graduating high school senior or an undergraduate student in the Southeast Chapter area who is preparing for a career in engineering or the sciences. The grant may be applied toward full- or part-time study at any accredited college or university.
Available Scholarships
- Southeast Member Chapter Systems Group Scholarship — one (1) award of US$2,500 for one academic year.
- Gene Suave Scholarship — one (1) award of US$3,500 for one academic year.
Who May Apply
Applicants should be pursuing a career in engineering, the sciences, or related fields connected to iron and steel production. If no candidates from engineering or the sciences apply, students majoring in other relevant programs will be considered. Selection will take GPA into account (high school GPA for senior applicants; college GPA for current students), along with extracurricular involvement and the required essay.
Eligible applicants include:
- Material Advantage program members who reside in the Southeast Chapter region or attend a college/university in that region; and
- Children, stepchildren, grandchildren, or spouses of Southeast Chapter members who have maintained active (dues-paid) Chapter membership for at least two consecutive years.
Applicants must have been accepted into an eligible full- or part-time program at an accredited college or university.
How Recipients Are Chosen
Applications are evaluated by the Southeast Chapter Executive Board together with an impartial reviewer who is not a member of AIST. Awards are granted without consideration of financial need. Students may submit applications in subsequent years and remain eligible to reapply throughout their college education.
Conditions and Award Disbursement
1. Scholarship funds must be used at an accredited college or university.
2. The recipient is expected to begin the course of study in the fall semester of the same year the scholarship is awarded.
3. The AIST Foundation will send the scholarship amount as a single lump-sum payment to the recipient’s college or university for deposit into the student’s account.
4. If enrollment, admission, or studies are delayed or interrupted for any reason, the recipient must notify the Chapter Secretary immediately; failure to do so may result in forfeiture of the award.
