Strong Arm Leukemia Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by John Foy & Associates
John Foy & Associates, also known as the “Strong Arm of Georgia”, is a formidable Atlanta-based Personal Injury law firm that relentlessly advocates for its clients. However, we understand that not all battles are waged in the courtroom. Battling a disease like leukemia demands more than just a legal “Strong Arm”. It calls for a committed team of medical professionals, family, friends, and many others. The fight against leukemia requires unwavering determination, relentless drive, and meticulous diligence from both the patient and their loved ones. This fight can often be a lonely one, isolating the patient and their family. We, at our firm, acknowledge this reality. Hence, we are thrilled to present the annual John Foy & Associates “Strong Arm” Leukemia Scholarship.
This $1,000 scholarship will be granted to one undergraduate or graduate student who has either battled leukemia or has been impacted by it. “We are privileged to be part of this courageous community,” stated John M. Foy, the firm's founder. “We initiated this scholarship to raise awareness about the challenges faced by leukemia patients and their families.” Leukemia is the most prevalent cancer among children and teenagers, and it’s one of the most frequently diagnosed in adults.
Remarkable strides in medical research have increased the survival rate in children from 10% in the 1970s to over 80% today. If you or a loved one has been affected by this disease, you have already fought the battle of your life. Now, you have the opportunity to pursue higher education and steer your life in a positive direction. As legal professionals, we recognize the inherent value of a college education, not just for formal learning but also for personal growth. Allow us to assist you in helping yourself.
The John Foy & Associates “Strong Arm” Leukemia Scholarship is available to high-performing college students who meet the following criteria:
- You or a loved one have been impacted by leukemia.
- You are enrolled in an accredited college or university, or graduate school as an undergraduate or graduate student, or you are an incoming freshman at an accredited institution in the United States.
To apply, you must either create a 2-3 minute video OR write a 500 to 1000-word essay on one of the three topics listed below and submit an official high school or college transcript. Applications can only be submitted online via this website. Our attorneys will form a selection committee to choose the winner, who will be publicly announced through the media and featured on our website. We hope that our scholarship program will inspire young people affected by this common type of cancer to lead inspired lives.
Application Topics:
Create a 2-3 minute video or write a 500 to 1,000-word essay on one of these three topic questions:
- How has your or your loved one’s leukemia diagnosis impacted your education?
- What modifications have you made as a student to accommodate your or a loved one’s leukemia?
- What is one challenge that individuals with leukemia face that you wish the public was more aware of?
Include a paragraph explaining how this scholarship would benefit you. This paragraph will not count toward the word count of the essay, or to the length of the video respectively.
For the videos to be considered eligible, students are required to:
- Record their videos in well-lit areas while holding their recording device of choice as still as possible.
- State their full name and the name of the scholarship they are applying for either at the beginning or at the end of their video and give credits as necessary.
- Specify any sources of information and the media editing tools used in crafting and creating their videos in the description of the video.
- Use only copyright-free content, and come up with a creative, catchy title that reflects their ideas.
Students are free to use media editing tools, to include images, stock shots, effects, or clean cuts in their content, but they are not compulsory. The firm intends to award this scholarship based on the quality of a video’s script and not a student’s demonstrable video editing skills. Therefore, students should take time and care crafting the speech for their videos before sitting down to record them.
While students can use AI to generate B-roll footage, the text/story that they share should be read in their own voices. Any usage of AI platforms to automatically generate videos, and the use of fake actors without appearing in their own video is strictly prohibited and will lead to automatic disqualification.
Upon scripting, shooting, and editing your video, you should post it as an unlisted video on YouTube, and submit a link to the video through the form available on this page.
For your essay to be eligible please include the following:
- A header where you mention your full name; the name of the scholarship; the name of the institution you are enrolled in; the mailing address from your financial aid office where we can mail the award; the e-mail address and phone number from your financial aid office; the student ID number.
- A catchy and original title.
- A bibliography where you mention all the sources of information used (eg: books, sites; articles, magazines, reports, etc.)
