Sussman Law Firm is a staunch advocate for education and the indomitable spirit of immigrants and first-generation students. In recognition of this, we are delighted to present the Empowering Immigrants Scholarship. This initiative is designed to assist students who have surmounted unique hurdles on their path to higher education. The scholarship, valued at $1,000, is intended to alleviate the financial strain of college and to celebrate the narratives that enrich our diverse communities.
If you are an immigrant or the first in your family to pursue college education, we encourage you to share your story. In an essay of 750-1000 words, narrate your or your family's immigration journey, the challenges you've encountered, and your academic aspirations. We look forward to acknowledging the tenacity and zeal that propels students like you towards success.
Who Can Apply?
- The scholarship is open to current high school seniors, vocational students, college students, or graduate students who are legal residents of the United States, residing in any of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. Applicants must be enrolled in a vocational program or a two- to four-year post-secondary institution for the Spring 2026 semester.
- Employees of Sussman Law Firm, their immediate family members (including parents, children, siblings, and spouses), and anyone living in the same household (irrespective of their relationship), are ineligible to apply for this scholarship.
- Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must be in good academic standing to be considered.
Application Guidelines
- Applicants are required to submit an essay of 750 -1,000 words in response to the following prompt: Are you an immigrant or the first in your family to attend college? We encourage you to share your unique story! Narrate your or your family’s immigration journey, the challenges you’ve surmounted, and the aspirations that fuel your educational journey. This is your opportunity to inspire others and highlight the spirit that characterizes students like you!
- Please be aware that all essays will be scrutinized for AI writing. If AI writing is detected in the essay, the application will be disqualified.
- Applicants must provide a professional resumé detailing their professional and academic experiences.
- Applicants must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, along with the most recent official transcript from their previous school. High school students may submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.
- Preference will be accorded to students who are either from North Carolina or attending secondary school in North Carolina.
