- Teacher recommendations
- An official high school transcript
Selection criteria
Scholarship recipients are chosen on the basis of academic merit rather than financial need. The selection committee evaluates GPA and standardized test scores (SAT and ACT), leadership and participation in school groups or clubs, and the applicant’s understanding of and commitment to community banking and service to their community. Family financial circumstances are not a factor in awarding these scholarships.
Background
The award commemorates the late Julian Hester, a former community banker and long-time CBA Chief Executive Officer, and his daughter Jan Hester. Jan, who was a senior at the University of Georgia, died in an automobile accident on April 15, 1990. The scholarship honors their legacy by encouraging the same positive qualities in future leaders and supporting community banking.
