Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarships

Overview
The Dwight P. Jacobus Scholarships were created by the Association of School Business Officials of Maryland (MD ASBO) to provide financial support to Maryland residents who need assistance to pursue a college education. These awards are intended for undergraduate students preparing for careers in school business or education at an accredited institution within Maryland. Dwight P. Jacobus served as MD ASBO’s first Executive Director.
Number of Awards
Up to five scholarships may be granted each year. At least one award will be reserved for a student enrolled in an approved teacher certification program.
Selection Criteria
MD ASBO selects recipients based on the following factors:
- Academic record
- Demonstrated financial need
- SAT or ACT test scores
- Quality and significance of extracurricular activities
- Strength of the applicant’s essay
Award Amount and Payment
Each scholarship is worth $1,000 for the academic year in which it is awarded. Funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s enrolled institution.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Have been a Maryland resident for at least one year immediately prior to the award date
- Be accepted to, and enroll as, a full-time student at an accredited Maryland college or university (full-time status as defined by the institution)
- Demonstrate financial need
- Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
Who May Apply
- Recent high school graduates
- Current college students who are freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors
- Previous scholarship recipients (may submit a new application for reconsideration)
