SAE SmartMobility Evolution Scholarship

Purpose
This scholarship supports students preparing for careers that advance clean, safe, and accessible mobility — particularly work enabled by connected, automated, energy‑efficient, and shared technologies that improve the future of transportation and the user experience.
Award
SAE aims to grant three or more scholarships each year, each worth $5,000, subject to the number of qualified applicants and available funds. Awards are open to students from incoming freshmen through graduate level.
Eligibility
- Must be a U.S. resident.
- GPA requirements: incoming freshmen — minimum 3.75 GPA; incoming college upperclassmen (sophomore, junior, senior) and graduate students — minimum 3.5 GPA.
- Enrolled in (or accepted to) a U.S. ABET‑accredited program pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Submit two letters of recommendation:
- One academic reference addressing scholastic performance.
- One reference describing extracurricular, association/community service, or employment activities that demonstrate a commitment to encouraging youth to explore and pursue STEM education and careers.
- Provide examples of STEM coursework or studies relevant to automotive or other mobility/transportation industries.
- Demonstrate commitment to pursuing STEM studies/careers through significant involvement or leadership in school, work, community, clubs, volunteer service, or mentorship activities. Applicants showing direct involvement in the automotive industry will receive additional consideration.
