Introduction SOAR Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting and mentoring “first females” — young women who are the first in their families to pursue college or graduate study, or who have overcome substantial obstacles on their educational paths. Our mission is to award scholarships and foster lasting mentorship and relationship-building so recipients can achieve their potential and, in turn, lift up others. Scholarship and Mentoring Program Each year SOAR Texas will select 20 students to receive a $5,000 scholarship. Scholars may reapply in subsequent years provided they continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Awardees are invited into a mentorship circle that holds office hours three times per semester (attendance is encouraged but not required), plus several optional meetings throughout the year, either in person or online depending on member locations. As cohorts grow, prior recipients remain in the group to mentor newly selected scholars while continuing to benefit from peer support and the network formed. Who Is Eligible Applicants must meet all of the following: - Identify as a woman who is a first-generation college or graduate student or who has overcome significant challenges in pursuing education. - Be enrolled full-time, or accepted to start full-time, in the fall of 2026 at an accredited U.S. four-year college or a graduate program. - Hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. - Demonstrate leadership experience. - Exhibit good moral character across personal, professional, academic, community, and online spheres. Selection Process Applications are reviewed by the scholarship committee, which evaluates family background, scholastic achievement, extracurricular involvement, community volunteerism, church service or employment, and the strength of essay responses. The committee will choose finalists to present to the Board, and the Board will vote to determine the scholarship recipients. Application Details and Deadline - The application period opens December 15, 2025 and closes March 13, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) CST. All application materials — including proof of acceptance or enrollment for fall 2026, an official school transcript, and at least one letter of recommendation — must be submitted online or received at our Austin office before the March 13, 2026 12:00 p.m. (Noon) CST deadline. Mailed or hand-delivered materials should be sent to: 6101 W Courtyard Dr., 1-150, Austin, TX 78730. - Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 17, 2025 and will be invited to a recognition event (in person or virtually) at the Summer Celebration in June 2026. - The current online link shows last year’s application for reference; the new application form will be posted prior to December 15, 2025. Award Disbursement Scholarship payments will be made payable to the accredited institution the recipient will attend and may be applied toward tuition, room and board, or other qualifying educational expenses as administered by that university.
