About Loomis and Rose Peebles
Loomis and Rose Peebles were longtime educators and active volunteers who devoted both their careers and resources to strengthening their community. Beyond teaching, they supported local causes through volunteer work and charitable contributions.
Foundation of the Scholarship
Their daughter, Ruth Peebles, created this scholarship in 2019 to commemorate her parents and to invest intentionally in the education of young African American first-generation students. Ruth’s goal is to help remove financial barriers so recipients can pursue meaningful careers and ultimately give back as community leaders.
A note from Ruth Peebles (paraphrased)
Ruth recalls her parents regularly donating to causes they cared about and being deeply engaged in local efforts—Loomis with Junior Achievement and Rose with the Literacy Council and Habitat for Humanity. Growing up, she learned the importance of helping others. She believes higher education opens doors to rewarding careers and is gratified that this scholarship helps students convert educational opportunities into long-term possibilities.
