Northeastern Ohio Member Chapter Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST)
Introduction
The Alfred B. Glossbrenner Scholarship was created in 1988 to honor the founding chairman of the AISE Canton District Section. In 1996, the AISE Canton Section Executive Committee approved a second scholarship to recognize John Klusch for his more than 35 years of service as Canton Section Secretary.
Awards
The Northeastern Ohio Member Chapter scholarship program will provide up to four (6) scholarships. An applicant may receive only one of these awards.
Eligibility
To qualify, applicants must, at the time they apply, be a child (natural, step-child, adopted child, or ward) of a United States citizen or a landed immigrant who is a member in good standing of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) and who has maintained paid membership for the past two years. Alternatively, the student may be a Student Member of AIST through the Material Advantage Student Program. In addition, the student must live in or attend school within the AIST Northern Ohio Member Chapter area.
Applicants must have been accepted into a full-time, eligible program at an accredited college or university in North America, pursuing a course of study in engineering or metallurgy. Scholarships may be renewed annually for up to three additional years. To retain the award, students must document and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 in a technical major.
Selection
Awards are primarily based on academic performance (including high school GPA), extracurricular involvement, and intended field of study, with preference given to engineering majors. The required essay will also be considered in the selection process. Awards are made without regard to financial need, and the Scholarship Committee’s decision is final.
Rules
1. Funds must be used at an accredited college or university.
2. The recipient must begin the approved course of study in the fall semester of the year the scholarship is granted.
3. The AIST Foundation will send the scholarship payment as a single lump sum to the college or university for deposit to the student’s account.
4. If a recipient’s admission or studies are delayed or interrupted for any reason, the Secretary must be notified immediately; such delays or interruptions may lead to forfeiture of the award.
