Overview
An annual $2,000 scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who demonstrates a particular interest in the design and development of new agricultural machinery products. This award is supported by Mr. & Mrs. William J. Adams, Jr. through the ASABE Foundation and is administered by the P-120 Student Organizations Committee.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a declared major in biological or agricultural engineering.
- Be enrolled in an engineering program accredited by ABET (U.S.) or CEAB (Canada).
- Have completed at least one full year of undergraduate study.
- Have at least one full year of undergraduate study remaining at the time of application (i.e., not be a graduating senior in the semester/term of application).
- Hold an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Be a student member of ASABE.
- Demonstrate financial need (see note below regarding allowable uses).
Financial need for this scholarship is confined to costs for tuition, fees, books, and on‑campus room and board.
Selection, Awarding, and Publicity
- The recipient(s) are chosen by the P-120 Student Organizations Committee. If the candidate pool warrants, more than one scholarship may be awarded in a given year. The committee also reserves the right to withhold the award in any year.
- Applicants will be notified of the decision in early June.
- Announcement of the recipient will appear in a fall issue of Inside ASABE and via press release.
- A student may apply for multiple scholarships provided they meet the respective eligibility requirements; however, a student may receive only one ASABE Foundation‑funded scholarship per academic year.
- All essay submissions must be original.

How to Apply
1. Complete the official entry form, including a short essay that explains (a) why you have chosen agricultural machinery product design and development as your primary focus and (b) the extent of your financial need.
2. Request endorsement from your department head or another appropriate college official. The endorser must confirm that you:
- Are a declared major in biological or agricultural engineering in an ABET- or CEAB-accredited program in the U.S. or Canada;
- Are a student member of ASABE;
- Have completed at least one year of undergraduate study and have at least one additional year remaining from the time of application;
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (4.0 basis) or equivalent;
- Possess a demonstrated interest in agricultural machinery product design and development; and
- Have financial need for assistance.
