Elder Abuse and Neglect Scholarship

Elder abuse and neglect are increasing concerns in our communities. Educating the public about the warning signs and symptoms is a key step toward preventing these harmful acts.
Scholarship overview
- Peck Law Group is offering a $1,000 scholarship to support students who produce original educational content about elder abuse and neglect. Video submissions are encouraged because they are engaging, easy to watch, and highly shareable, helping the message reach more people across California and the United States.
- In addition to the $1,000 scholarship, entrants who complete the social media challenge can earn an extra $400.
The challenge
- Create an original video describing an experience with elder abuse and/or neglect and submit it along with a 500-word (minimum) article. The story may be your own or about a family member or loved one. Detailed, thoughtful submissions are preferred—be creative and thorough.
- Within your 500-word article include links to any studies or statistics you reference. For example, you might cite research noting correlations between staffing levels (nurses and nurse aides), staff turnover rates, facility size (number of beds), and incidents of patient mistreatment.
Originality and content requirements
- All material you submit must be entirely your own work. Submissions will be screened for plagiarism; any content that is not original or not created by you will be disqualified.
- Any images, graphics, or other media used in the video or article must be original or royalty-free. Do not copy infographics or images from other websites without permission. If you use stock images, choose royalty-free sources such as Pexels.
Social media bonus
- To qualify for the additional $400, publish a social media post telling a story about nursing home abuse. Your post must include the hashtag #nursinghomeabuse and link to this page: https://premierlegal.org/check-with-peck-nursing-home-abuse-neglect/
- Provide a link to that social media post when you submit your entry.

How to enter
- Email your original video and the 500-word article to thepecklawgroup@gmail.com. Include a link to your social media post (if you completed the social media challenge) and the following information:
- Full name, mailing address, and phone number
- Name of the college or trade school you plan to attend or are currently attending
- If you are under 18, provide the legal guardian’s contact information
Important dates and award
- Submission window: June 01, 2025 through June 01, 2026 (deadline: 11:59 p.m. PST on June 01, 2026).
- Winner announcement: July 01, 2026.
- Prize: $1,000 scholarship (plus an optional additional $400 for qualifying social media entries).
Eligibility
- Open to anyone who is attending or has been accepted to a college or trade school.
- Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in the United States.
