The purpose of this scholarship is to reward outstanding LGBTQ students and allies, and encourage them to (1) start, and/or continue, and complete post-secondary education at any level, and (2) promote a positive image of LGBTQ youth.
SCHOLARSHIP OFFERED:
- The Sandy Lane Scholarship is a $1,000.00 (one thousand dollars) fund awarded to the candidate selected by the Scholarship Committee of PFLAG Blairsville.
- The scholarship may, at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, be awarded multiple times to the same recipient.
- The scholarship may, at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, be awarded to multiple recipients for the same term.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Must be a self-identified member of the LGBTQ community or a proven ally.
- Must be a Georgia resident of one of the communities of the North Georgia Mountains at the time of scholarship application. Eligible counties include: Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Towns, Union and White.
- Must have applied for admission to an accredited post-secondary or vocational institution, or must be currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary or vocational institution with at least one term remaining in their program beyond the current term in which the application is submitted.
- Must submit a completed Sandy Lane Scholarship application form along with the required supporting materials.
- If currently attending secondary school, a completed Sandy Lane Scholarship application form including required supporting materials must be received by April 15 of the expected school term to start study (Summer or Fall). Applications may be submitted earlier, and no earlier than nine months prior to the proposed start of post-secondary education.
- If currently attending post-secondary or vocational school, the application must be submitted no later than three weeks prior to the end of the current term.
- Must have satisfied the high school graduation requirements of the Georgia Department of Education. Applicants currently enrolled in an accredited postsecondary or vocational institution are assumed to have satisfied this requirement.
- The recipient of the scholarship must be willing to participate and speak at any scholarship events sponsored by PFLAG Blairsville.
