AAUW Atascadero (CA) Branch Scholarships

Overview
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) works to promote equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Aligned with this mission, the Atascadero Branch of AAUW awards scholarships each year to women who have completed at least one year of college at an accredited institution and who either live in North County or attended high school there. In recent years, individual awards have typically ranged from $500 to $2,000.
Georgie Arnold Scholarship
The Georgie Arnold Scholarship was created in Georgie’s memory by her family and friends in the Atascadero AAUW branch. This fund specifically supports women who are preparing for careers in education.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the basic requirement of having completed one year or more of study at an accredited college or university and must have a North County connection (current residence or local high school attendance). Eligibility is further limited to individuals who fall into one of the following categories:
- Residents of Atascadero, Santa Margarita, Templeton, or Paso Robles;
- Members of the Atascadero Branch of AAUW; or
- Women who graduated from one of the listed local high schools but now live outside the area while attending college.
Who may apply
Women at any stage of higher education are welcome to apply. Candidates pursuing degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields are especially encouraged to apply.
Selection criteria
Applications are reviewed using these factors:
- Academic progress
- Demonstrated financial need
- Clear statement of academic and career goals
- Volunteer and community service activities
- Letters of reference
