Norristown Garden Club Scholarship

Introduction
Since 1971 the Norristown Garden Club (NGC) has provided annual scholarships to students pursuing further education in horticulture-related areas.
Eligible fields
Scholarships support study in the following disciplines:
- Agriculture Education
- Agronomy
- Botany
- Conservation
- Environmental Concerns
- Floriculture
- Horticulture
- Land Management
- Landscape Architecture
- Plant Pathology
- Other closely related fields
Who may apply
- Priority is given to residents of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia counties (PA) who are enrolled full-time in a horticulture-related program.
- Non-residents will also be considered if they are attending a full-time, horticulture-related program at an institution located in one of the counties listed above.
Award amounts and renewals
- Multiple scholarships are awarded each year. Individual awards will be determined by the Norristown Garden Club and will be no less than $2,000.
- Recipients may reapply in subsequent years provided they continue to demonstrate strong academic performance and ongoing financial need.
Payment of funds
Scholarship funds are sent by the NGC treasurer directly to the student’s school financial aid office to be applied to tuition.
Selection process
Applications are evaluated using this weighting:
- Academics: 40%
- Applicant’s personal letter and letters of recommendation: 25%
- Financial need: 20%
- Extracurricular activities, honors and achievements: 10%
- Recommendation from a Norristown Garden Club member: 5%
