North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Tokach Angus Ranch Memorial Scholarship
Overview
This scholarship exists to financially assist a student pursuing studies related to beef production. It supports individuals majoring in Animal Science, Range Science, Pre‑Veterinary Medicine, Agribusiness, Agricultural Communications, Farm & Ranch Management, or another beef‑focused field.
Award
One recipient will receive $1,000 and a one‑year membership in the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a resident of North Dakota.
- Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Be enrolled at the time of application in an accredited institution of higher learning in one of the disciplines listed above.
- Demonstrate an interest in North Dakota’s beef cattle industry.
- Be a member of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association or the child of a member.
- Submit a completed application packet (application form, essay, official transcript, and references). Applications transmitted via email will not be accepted.
Selection priorities
The scholarship is awarded primarily on the basis of financial need and a strong commitment to further education. Secondary considerations include academic performance, leadership, extracurricular involvement, and moral character. Preference will be given to candidates who have already earned a bachelor’s degree and are pursuing graduate or professional studies (for example, veterinary or law school).
Application materials — required content
Applicants must provide:
- A completed application form.
- An essay describing:
- The applicant’s participation in the cattle industry (activities, memberships, awards, etc.).
- Reasons for choosing the current major.
- The applicant’s perspective on the future of the cattle industry.
- The applicant’s intended involvement in the cattle industry after graduation.
- An official academic transcript.
- References as specified on the application.
Deadline and award timing
Completed application packets must be delivered to the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association office by March 1. The scholarship committee will select the recipient. Payment of the scholarship will occur after the recipient has enrolled for the fall semester.
Funding and disbursement
After a recipient is chosen, the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation will issue the award check to the recipient’s college or university development foundation. The Foundation will disburse funds only after authorization from the institution’s Student Financial Aid office.
Selection committee and governance
- The Scholarship Selection Committee will include the chairman of the NDSF advisory committee plus at least three additional livestock industry professionals.
- Any modifications to these guidelines must be approved by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Board of Directors.
Publicity and recognition
The scholarship winner should be publicized in the North Dakota Stockman and other outlets when possible. If feasible, the recipient will be recognized at the annual convention to provide positive exposure for both the winner and the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation.
Evaluation criteria
Selection will emphasize:
1. Financial need.
2. Completeness and quality of the application packet.
3. Demonstrated interest in the beef industry.
