Name
This award is titled the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Endowment Scholarship.
Purpose
The scholarship is intended to financially assist a student pursuing a beef‑related field at a North Dakota college or university. Eligible majors include Animal Science, Range Science, Pre‑Veterinary Studies, Agribusiness, Agricultural Communications, Farm & Ranch Management, or another discipline directly related to the beef industry.
Award
The recipient will receive $500 and a one‑year membership in the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a resident of North Dakota.
- At the time the application is submitted, be a high school senior or a college freshman, sophomore, or junior planning to major or currently majoring in one of the fields listed above.
- Demonstrate an interest in North Dakota’s beef cattle industry.
- Be a member of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association or the child of a member.
- Submit a completed paper application to the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation (electronic/emailed applications are not accepted).
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Application Content
Applications must include:
- A description of the applicant’s involvement in the cattle industry (activities, organizations, awards, etc.).
- An explanation of why the applicant chose their major.
- The applicant’s perspective on the future of the cattle industry.
- The applicant’s post‑graduation plans related to the cattle industry.
Selection process and deadline
Completed applications must be received by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association office by March 1 each year. A scholarship committee will review submissions and select the recipient. The decision will consider demonstrated financial need, the application form, and the applicant’s interest in the beef industry.
Funding and payment
After a recipient is chosen, the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation will issue a check for the award amount to the recipient’s college or university development foundation. Disbursement will be made after the student’s enrollment for the fall semester is confirmed and upon authorization by the institution’s office of student financial aid.
Governance and publicity
- The Scholarship Selection Committee will consist of the NDSF advisory committee chairman and at least three additional livestock industry professionals.
- Any revisions to these scholarship rules must be approved by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Board of Directors.
- The recipient’s name will be published in the North Dakota Stockman and other outlets; if feasible, the winner will be acknowledged at the annual convention to provide publicity for both the recipient and the Foundation.
