Introduction
Since 1955, National AMBUCS, Inc. has provided scholarships for students training in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech‑language pathology, and audiology. To date, the organization has awarded more than $10 million to over 16,757 students.
Who may apply
- Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate-level program accredited by the appropriate professional authority for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech‑language pathology, or audiology.
- Assistant-level or undergraduate programs are not eligible.
- Selection criteria include demonstrated financial need, commitment to the local community, evidence of character (compassion and integrity), and clear career objectives.
- Applications that are sponsored by a volunteer AMBUCS chapter receive priority consideration.
Award details
- Annually, National AMBUCS awards in excess of $200,000. Individual scholarships typically range from $600 to $1,500.
- There is one two‑year award totaling $6,000.
- Scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient’s institution and posted to the student’s account in the school’s financial aid office.
Application requirements and submission
- The application period opens February 1 and closes April 1 each year. All parts of the application must be submitted by the April 1 deadline. The online application platform allows applicants to save progress and return later.

- Documentation verifying enrollment in an accredited graduate program as described above
- A one‑page personal statement
Applicant timeline
- February 1: Student applications open.
- April 1: Student application deadline (must be complete by this date).
- May 15: Chapter Sponsorship forms are due (if you have been nominated by a local AMBUCS chapter).
- June–August: Scholarship Committee reviews applications and makes awards. Awarded students, sponsoring chapters, and donors will be notified by email, and recipients will be posted on the AMBUCS website. After notification, recipients should inform AMBUCS of any changes to their school or program. Award funds will be sent to the educational institution’s financial aid office.
