About the scholarship
This award is provided by Ukulele Festival Hawaii, a nonprofit established in 2004. The organization’s mission is to raise public appreciation for the ukulele as an instrument capable of virtuoso performance and to support Hawai‘i’s arts and culture through education, college scholarships, and the free annual Ukulele Festivals.

Eligibility
- Must be a graduating high school senior who resides in Hawaii.
- Must have been accepted to an accredited college or university.
- Must demonstrate a genuine passion for the ukulele.
- Must exhibit good character and a record of meaningful community service.
Application requirements
1. Completed application form (type or print legibly).
2. Personal statement — one page, typed. Address the following (point values shown):
- Your educational plans, career objectives, and college financial needs. (20 points)
- Your connection to and love for the ukulele; what the instrument means to you. (40 points)
- A summary of your volunteer and community service activities. (20 points)
3. Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a high school teacher). Recommendations should describe your school involvement, community service, and achievements. Recommendations from relatives or close friends are not acceptable. (10 points)
4. Evidence of financial need. (10 points)
- Optional: You may include the first page of a parent’s federal Form 1040 (please block out the social security number).
Scoring overview
The essay components and supporting materials are weighted to total 100 points: essay sections (20 + 40 + 20 = 80), two recommendations (10), and demonstrated financial need (10).
Submission deadline
Applications must be postmarked by April 30. Applications received or postmarked after this date will not be accepted.
