FRA Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Fleet Reserve Association Education Foundation
Introduction FRA is committed to supporting the educational futures of service members, veterans and their families. Alongside its long history of advocating for expanded DoD and VA education benefits, the FRA Education Foundation was created in 2009 to directly assist students pursuing postsecondary education. Scholarship Program Overview The Foundation operates a robust scholarship program that awards up to $5,000 per recipient to help cover costs for trade schools, community colleges, four-year institutions and graduate programs. Each year the Foundation awards roughly $90,000 in scholarships. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, academic performance, and qualities of character and leadership. Eligibility - Applicants must be U.S. citizens and enrolled full time at an accredited U.S. trade school, community college, college or university. - Students are eligible if they have a connection to the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard through their own service or that of a spouse, parent, grandparent or great‑grandparent. - FRA members in good standing — and their spouses, children, grandchildren and great‑grandchildren — qualify for a broader range of Foundation scholarships. - Some awards have general eligibility criteria while others target specific groups or qualifications; individual scholarship descriptions list any additional requirements. Application Window and Requirements Scholarship applications are available annually from September 1 through April 15 (application PDFs are posted at the bottom of the page). All application forms and supporting documentation must be postmarked no later than April 15. - Files or documents postmarked after April 15 will not be considered. - Incomplete applications will not be considered. Selection and Notification All eligible applicants will be considered for any scholarship for which they meet the donor’s stated criteria. Recipients are notified by email in the summer about awards for the upcoming fall term. FRA only contacts applicants who have been selected for awards. After the recipient confirms and provides any requested follow‑up information to verify continued eligibility, an official award letter signed by the Foundation President is issued. Additional Resources The FRA Education Foundation also partners with several colleges and universities that provide course credit for military training and reduced tuition rates for FRA members.
