Ohio EPA Scholarships

Overview
These are merit-based, one-time scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled at an Ohio public or private college, university, or community college who can demonstrate both knowledge of and commitment to careers in environmental science or environmental engineering. Applicants must be entering either their junior or senior year. Recipients are chosen by a panel appointed by the Academy. Funds may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, personal protective equipment, tools, instruments, and field equipment; housing costs are not eligible.

Eligibility
- Must be an undergraduate student enrolled at an Ohio public or private college/university or community college.
- Must be entering the junior or senior year.
- Must demonstrate interest and commitment to a career in environmental science or environmental engineering.
- Minimum academic requirement: 3.0 CPA.
Application period
- Applications are accepted from February 15 to April 15.
Application materials (required)

1. Official, full transcript showing all courses to date. Circle the GPA on the transcript. (Applicant must meet the minimum 3.0 CPA.)
2. A vita, biosketch, or résumé (maximum two pages) containing, in this order: complete contact information, education, employment and/or internships (basic info only), honors/awards, professional memberships, publications (full citation), presentations given, professional meetings attended, and community service.
3. Three short essays. Each essay must not exceed one two-sided page, double-spaced, in 12-point font with 1” margins:
- Essay 1: Explain why you chose a career in environmental science or environmental engineering and how receiving this scholarship would assist you.
- Essay 2: Describe any original research, scholarship, employment or internships, or other distinctive contributions you have made in environmental science or environmental engineering.
- Essay 3: Describe extracurricular activities and organizational involvement that illustrate your leadership, interpersonal skills, and sense of social responsibility.
4. Two letters of recommendation from education or environmental professionals, addressed to the Scholarship Review Committee. One letter must come from a faculty member at your institution.

Selection and use of award
- Award decisions are made by an Academy-appointed review panel.
- Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition, fees, books, PPE, tools, instruments, and field equipment only (housing is excluded).
