Triangle Education Scholarships

INTRODUCTION
The Triangle Education Foundation awards scholarships each year to active members of Triangle Fraternity who demonstrate strong academic performance, campus and community involvement, and leadership within their chapters. Through alumni and other donors, TEF distributes more than 20 scholarships annually to students who will be undergraduates during the academic year following the award.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
Applications for the 2025–2026 cycle must be submitted by March 28, 2025.
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY (APPLIES TO ALL SCHOLARSHIPS UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED)
Applicants must:
- Be active members of Triangle Fraternity enrolled in a degree program and be an initiated undergraduate for the school year following their application.
- Have completed at least two full academic years by the time the award is made (awards are generally issued in the summer following the application).
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 at the time of application, except where a different minimum is specified below.
- Demonstrate financial need and show that, consistent with their program of study, they are personally making an effort to contribute toward their education costs.
- Exhibit appropriate social and interpersonal skills, evidenced by active engagement in chapter activities, involvement on campus, and service in the community.
AVAILABLE UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS (SUMMARY)
- James Rust Scholarship
- One annual award of $6,500.
- Selection considers financial need, academic record, and participation in Triangle and campus activities.
- When candidates are otherwise comparable, preference is given to students in core engineering fields or the “hard” sciences.
- Mortin Scholarship
- Annual award based on a combination of need, academic achievement, and activity in Triangle and campus life.
- Sevcik Scholarship
- One yearly award focused on financial need.
- Preference given to Ohio State students and to engineering and/or minority students.
- Kapadia Scholarship
- Available to undergraduate or graduate members in good standing.
- Preference for engineering majors, non-U.S. citizens, members of the Zoroastrian faith, and students at Michigan State.
- Number and amount of awards vary by committee decision; individual awards typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
- Peter and Barbara Bye Scholarship
- Awarded annually based on need and academic performance (minimum GPA 2.7/4.0).
- If all else is equal, preference goes to members from the Cornell University Triangle chapter (if it has been recolonized).
- Pierce E. Healey Memorial Scholarship
- Annual award with emphasis on grades and active participation in chapter, campus, and civic life.
- James Marshall (pur65) Triangle Volunteers Scholarship
- Created to honor Brother Marshall and other dedicated volunteers.
- Awarded each year based on need, academic performance, and engagement in Triangle and campus activities.
- Kevin Robertson (marq92) Triangle Presidents Scholarship
- Established to recognize Brother Robertson and the service of Triangle chapter presidents.
- Given annually based on a combination of need, grades, and chapter/campus participation.
- Foglesong Family Minority Student Scholarship
- Intended to encourage diversity in engineering, architecture, and science.
- Recipients must be Triangle members in good standing from underrepresented populations in those fields, demonstrate academic success (minimum GPA 2.7/4.0), show chapter and community service, and have financial need.
- Memorial Scholarship
- Funded in memory of Jeff by his wife and sons.
- One annual award to a Triangle who shows financial need, social skills, and a minimum GPA of 2.7/4.0.
- Purdue Class of 1958 Scholarship
- One award each year based on financial need and demonstrated social skills, with preference given to Purdue students.
- Louise & Bill Schmitt (pur61) Scholarship
- One annual award recognizing community involvement.
- Minimum GPA 2.7/4.0.
- Preference for members of the Purdue chapter and for Chemical Engineering majors.
- John Sonnenburg (pur73) Scholarship
- Established by John Sonnenburg.
- Preference for a recipient from the Purdue chapter but open to all qualified Triangle members.
- Award is based on financial need within an approved Triangle field of study; minimum GPA 2.7/4.0.
- Edward and Isabell Larson Memorial Fellowship for Graduate Study
- One annual fellowship for a Triangle pursuing graduate study (master’s or doctoral) in engineering.
HOW AWARDS ARE DETERMINED
Most scholarships weigh a combination of financial need, academic standing, and demonstrated participation in Triangle, campus, and community activities. Some scholarships include additional preferences (such as specific campuses, majors, citizenship status, religion, or membership in underrepresented populations) or set lower GPA thresholds as noted above.
