Overview
The Scott and Kim Verplank Foundation offers annual, renewable undergraduate scholarships of up to $10,000 to assist with tuition, student fees, and books. Awards may be renewed for a maximum of four years for any individual recipient, provided the student satisfies the Foundation’s renewal conditions. Candidates are chosen from applicants who meet the eligibility requirements listed below.
Eligibility Requirements
- Current high school senior (those already enrolled in college are ineligible).
- Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in childhood.
- Demonstrated, effective diabetes management using appropriate medication, exercise, and diet.
- Academic commitment: maintain an academic record above a 3.0 grade point average (in excess of a 3.0).
- Athletic involvement: actively participate on an organized team.
- United States citizen.
- Complete the scholarship application and submit required documentation and endorsements.
Application Window and Important Deadlines
- Applications open January 1 of the applicant’s senior year in high school.
- To be considered for awards to begin in fall 2026, the Foundation must receive your completed application by April 15, 2026. Applications submitted after April 15, 2026 will not be reviewed.
- Recipients are expected to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA through graduation.
Review Process and Timeline
- After your submission is deemed complete, an on-screen confirmation (“application received”) will be displayed.
- The Foundation Office compiles an Applicant Portfolio from the submitted application materials; only information included in the application or specifically requested by the Foundation will be evaluated.
- Do not send unsolicited materials—these will not be reviewed or added to your portfolio.
- Portfolio reviews for qualified applications begin in April.
- During the evaluation, the Foundation may request additional items, such as a Supplemental Survey and a Budget.
- The Foundation Board of Directors will announce selections in late June 2024; all applicants will receive an email notifying them of their status.
- Selected students will receive, at the time of award notification in June, instructions on Award Activation and the requirements for renewal.
