ALPA Scholarship

Introduction
As a member benefit, ALPA provides an annual college scholarship opportunity for eligible children of ALPA pilot members. The program is intended primarily for students beginning four-year college programs, though current undergraduates who meet the eligibility rules may also apply. Applicants must be enrolled (or planning to enroll) in a course of study that counts toward a bachelor’s degree.
Who May Apply
Applicants must be the child of an ALPA pilot member who is medically retired, long-term disabled, or deceased. While preference is given to students entering college as freshmen, those already attending college are eligible provided they satisfy the relationship and enrollment requirements described above.
Scholarship Awards
- One multi-year undergraduate scholarship is granted annually. Its total amount is $60,000, paid as $15,000 per year for up to four consecutive years, contingent upon the recipient maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- One single-year undergraduate scholarship of $10,000 is also awarded each year.
Required Application Materials
All application materials must be received by April 1. The submission must include:
- Completed online application (Parts 1, 2 and 3):
- Part 1 — Scholarship Application
- Part 2 — Financial Information
- Part 3 — Secondary School Report
- Official transcripts from high school and/or college, as applicable
- Two letters of recommendation from non-related individuals: one from a teacher and one from someone who can attest to your character or activities outside of school
- A two-page personal essay explaining why you should be chosen for the ALPA scholarship
Selection Process and Timeline
The ALPA Vice President-Administration/Secretary and the ALPA Vice President-Finance/Treasurer review applications and select the scholarship recipients. Selections are completed by July 31 each year.
