Selection considers multiple factors including academic performance, ANS leadership and involvement, references, career objectives, and financial need.

Who may apply
- Undergraduate and graduate scholarships: Open to ANS student members who are enrolled in degree programs related to nuclear science or nuclear engineering at an accredited U.S. university or in U.S. territories.
- International applicants: ANS members who belong to established international student sections are eligible to apply for ANS undergraduate scholarships (sophomore, junior, and senior levels only).
- Incoming freshmen scholarships: Available to high school seniors who have matriculated full-time into college-level STEM programs (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) and who express an interest in careers in nuclear science and technology.
