Overview
The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) offers merit-based scholarships to support university-level study in geophysics and related geosciences worldwide. These awards are aimed at attracting top high school and college students and recognize exceptional academic achievement and a clear commitment to pursuing a career in geophysics or closely related geoscience fields.
Who is eligible
To be considered for an SEG Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be either a high school senior planning to start college the following year, or an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student;
- Have above-average academic performance;
- Intend to follow a college curriculum that prepares them for a career in applied geophysics.
Maintaining and renewing a scholarship
Scholarship recipients are expected to demonstrate ongoing commitment, teamwork, and leadership by supporting the growth and visibility of geophysical science. For renewal consideration, recipients must take part in at least one of the activities below:
- Hold a paid SEG student membership or be an active member of an SEG Student Chapter;
- Volunteer or participate in SEG events or programs run in partnership with SEG to promote education, networking, and professional development;
- Attend SEG-sponsored workshops, forums, seminars, or conferences;
- Contribute publications or organize outreach activities under the auspices of an SEG Student Chapter.
Application steps and required materials
To apply, you must submit your application online during the application window (between 1 November and 1 March) and include:
- A current academic transcript;
- Email contact information for two faculty members who have agreed to act as references.
