John W. Luttrell Scholarship

Introduction
The John W. Luttrell Scholarship, administered by Children’s Cancer Network, provides annual financial awards to childhood cancer survivors and their immediate family members whose lives and higher-education plans were affected by childhood cancer. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition and books for post–high-school education, including but not limited to bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree programs, community colleges, and trade schools. Awards are paid directly to the recipient’s school on the student’s behalf and typically range from about $500 to $2,500.

History
Created in 2005, the John W. Luttrell Scholarship was funded initially through donations made in memory of John Luttrell, who died of brain cancer that year. Friends and family contributed to establish a lasting way to support students and families impacted by childhood cancer as they pursue higher education.

Who is eligible
- Childhood cancer survivors, their parents and siblings, and immediate family members of children who did not survive cancer are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants must have a connection to Arizona: either currently live in Arizona or have received cancer treatment in Arizona. (Arizona residents may plan to attend schools located outside the state.)

Award use and amount
Scholarship money is intended to assist with educational expenses such as tuition and textbooks. Typical award amounts are approximately $500 to $2,500 and will be issued payable to the educational institution on behalf of the recipient.

Application process
- Download the appropriate fillable application form from Children’s Cancer Network. You may type directly into the form, save it to your computer, and submit it with your two letters of recommendation.
- If you cannot complete the form electronically, print it, fill it out by hand, then scan the completed form to submit by email along with the recommendation letters.

Letters of recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required from non-related individuals. Each letter must have been written within one year of the application date and should include the recommender’s contact information.

Deadline
All application materials — the completed form, essay responses, and two recommendation letters — must be received by April 30 at 11:59 PM to be considered.
