Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by University of Georgia
Every year, approximately 20 scholarships are typically offered. To be eligible for the Foundation Fellowship, students must submit their application to UGA by the Early Action deadline of October 15. It is recommended that applicants have a minimum unweighted academic GPA of 3.9. In recent years, the average GPA of scholarship recipients has been 4.3. Applicants should have a proven track record of high academic performance and a history of leadership and achievement in co-curricular activities. Only those who have applied for the Foundation Fellowship will be considered for the Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarships.
The Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarship offers numerous benefits. For resident students of Georgia, an annual stipend of $6,260 is provided, in addition to the Zell Miller Scholarship (currently valued at $9,790 per year) and a first-year housing supplement of $614. Non-resident students receive an annual stipend of $10,260, a Presidential waiver (currently valued at $19,040 per year), and a first-year housing supplement of $1,228.
Additional benefits include domestic spring break service trips. In the past, Ramseys have visited locations such as San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, New Orleans, Miami, Charleston, Asheville, and the Mississippi Delta. Students can also avail of individual travel-study grants of $3,000, which are closely tied to their academic and professional goals and can be combined with semester stipends for a full semester or academic year of study abroad.
Other benefits include special seminars and book discussions with UGA and visiting professors, faculty and peer mentoring, biannual retreats for all scholars, and the opportunity to be part of a community of young scholars who stimulate each other's intellectual and personal development through the exchange of ideas and experiences.
